blessing from the ancestor if they use the water from the river
for their daily needs like bathing, washing and cooking. Still,
the large use of chemical soap for washing dishes and clothes
make the quality of the water decreasing. Also the habit of
throwing garbage into the river makes the water condition even
worse.

place. The beautiful view, natural water flows from the mountain
and fresh air can be very attractive for people to visit.
But the awareness of both the local
people and the visitors to keep the environment is still too low.
It is quite common for people to throw garbage into the river or
everywhere. The impact is quite bad; the quality of the water
decreasing and soon the place will turn into small plastic
mountain.
Together with the local people and
schools, the volunteers will organize some activities related to
the environment like school visit for increasing the awareness
of the local students to keep their surrounding clean, games and

because of no more mangrove and too strong waves from the ocean
will be the main focus of the camp. This project will be the
second project organized by IIWC in answering the needs of
preserving the coastal side of
North
Java
Sea
in Mangkang. This area is now in danger due to the abrasion of
the sea, cutting mangrove by local people and heavy force from
the river flows. Before, many kinds of fish and shrimps are
living there, but now since the condition of the mangrove forest
is getting worse, it is quite difficult to find the species
anymore. Fisherman also needs to go further to the ocean to fish
and it means much work they need to do to earn money.
The
aims of the camps are to initiate the project of protecting the
sea shore, increase the awareness of the local people and the
fisherman to protect their environment as well as their future.
Work:
Planting mangrove, mapping the mangrove conservation area,
environment education to local people and children, school
visits for environment education and Olympic Games for
environment.

a main reason why these parents entrust their children under the
education of the orphanage. In this project the volunteers are
expected to share happiness, loves, and cares with them.
The
main aim of the camp is
to get to know the daily life of orphan children in order to
have nice and meaningful relation with them then to share love
and happiness together.

Project:
The second project for the street children organized in
Surabaya
highlighting social and education sides of the street children.
The volunteer will have chance to build a close relation with
the street children in the shelter.
The street children are communities with different
characteristic and behaviors compared with other children. We
need special approach to get close to them and not many people
can do that. Usually, because of economic background, the
children go to the street to earn money.
This
camp is organized to help the street children with the skill
development so hopefully volunteers and children can create
interesting activities in the shelter that makes the children
stay longer in the shelter. The idea of creating these
activities is to reduce the time spent on the street. Street is
dangerous for the children, so more time spent in the shelter
will be better for the children.
The
second aim is to increase the skill of the street children so
that they do not only beg and ask money form others. It will be
nice if they have skill that finally will lead them to better
job and life in the future. Or at least they can be independent
with the skill they get.
Work:
Skill development in the shelter, language lessons, club
activities like singing, music, drawing, etc, personal health
teaching, as well as cultural and games exchange activities.
Special
remarks: Be ready with many ideas of games, plays, easy and
applicable skills for the children. Bring some info of personal
health material like how to brush teeth, washing hands, cutting
nails, etc. Story books, cnadies, toys, origami papers, etc will
be very interesting for the children. Be patient and have big
big smiles!!!
Accommodation:
A street
children shelter, sleeping bag and mattress needed, self cooking
(Please note that it is very challenging to stay and have
activities in the street children settlement. Be ready to stay
in slump area with poor houses far from good sanitation and
hygiene. The living condition of the people is very basic and
simple based on Indonesian live standard. More information about
the situation and condition of street children project will be
