AI-1 Marburg 15.03.-29.03. LANG/MANU
AI-2 Marburg 24.05.-07.06. LANG/MANU
Project:
Host organisation is the municipality of Marburg. For many years
they have organised international volunteer camps already. It is
a workcamp including a German-Language-Course. The lectures will
be daily, three hours per day (excluding Saturday and Sunday
when the group will go on excursions). Main topic during the
lectures will be intercultural diversities. So the basis of the
lectures will be firstly communication and secondly grammar. The
teachers will be native speakers, partly trained teachers,
partly students. The language-course won't have the same
standard like a professional language-school, but experiences
with this concept in the past have shown its success.
Work: Participants are busy doing various manual works to
prepare the area (youth-holiday-camp "Freizeitgelaende
Stadtwald") for (or after) the summer leisure activities of
the municipality. It means for example clearing the place,
gardening, painting, building up/taking down tents. Time of work
will be 4-5 hours daily, excluding Saturday and Sunday.
Accommodation: will be in a house with several-bed-rooms,
kitchen, bathroom, shower. Cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. will
be done by the groups themselves. Like in each workcamp,
accommodation, food and travel-costs for excursions are free as
well as materials/copies needed for the lectures.
Location: Marburg is a historical and picturesque old
university town, 100 km north of Frankfurt/Main. It has 80.000
inhabitants, including 20.000 students (from actual 120
different countries). The camp is located in the area named
"Stadtwald" in a youth-holiday-camp. It is not located
in the centre, but not too far, and there is a good
bus-connection.
Terminal: Train-station Marburg; next airport
Frankfurt/Main or Frankfurt-Hahn.
Special requirements: Participants must be able already
to communicate in German, at least on a level which ensures
simple communication; this course is not for absolute beginners.
Participants also must be willing to communicate with each other
during the camp in German and not in English or own mother
tongue for the whole time, not only during the lectures. This is
one important part of the concept.
Special remark: Because of the language-course there is
an (extra-) fee: 160,00 EUR - to be paid upon arrival.
Official confirmation for participating in the language-course
will be given at the end of the camp.
Age: 16-26 (exceptions for older volunteers are possible).

Muehlausen Thuringia 07.04 -

Project:
The
local host is a charity organisation running workshops and
schools for disabled. They have been hosting workcamps for many
years now. Former workcamps got a very warm welcome and were a
big success – it always meant a great experience for all
volunteers and inhabitants of the place.
Work:
Around a new residence for disabled people the garden has to be
arranged and the workcamp will help with it. At the moment there
is just a field, but there is a concept to transform it into a
nice garden to enjoy it in summertime. The project means working
in all weathers. There will be heavy and easy tasks to do, so
every volunteer should find suitable work. Professionals will
supervise the work and explain it.
Accommodation:
The
group will be living in a cosy, yellow house on the property of
the charity organisation next to the buildings of the workshops.
Kitchen, sleeping rooms and sanitary facilities are provided –
and much more. There is a big garden around the house with grass,
trees, a pond and a barbecue grill. Next to the workshops you
can also find a soccer field. On the roof of the house there is
balcony from where you have a great sight on the landscape
around. Muehlhausen provides a lot of shopping possibilities and
is easily reachable on foot or by bike.
Location:
Muehlhausen
is a very old German town with about 50.000 inhabitants.
Visiting the city centre and looking at the old houses you can
still imagine how
Germany
must have been in former times. Muehlhausen is situated in the
beautiful
forest
of
Thuringia
. Nearby are many interesting places like the city
Weimar

Martin Luther translated the new testament of the bible. There
are also many other nice places to go for an excursion.

Project:
IJGD groups have supported the coastal and dunes protection
programme on this
North Sea

Work: Under the leadership of the Marine and Waterways
Department, your international group will participate in
erecting sand-retaining fences, plant marram grass and repair
footpaths in the dunes. All these jobs prevent erosion of the
dunes by wind and water, and you will make an important
contribution to the island's sea defences. The dunes are a
nature reserve and offer a habitat for coastal animal and plant
life. You will have bicycles to reach the particular beaches
you'll be working on. This is a project for people who love the
sea, the beach, the sun and the wind. Wangerooge has numerous
nature and bird sanctuaries and is a car-free zone. It is a
holiday island which offers a variety of free time activities
such as swimming in the sea, beach volley ball, walking the
mud-flats, bicycle tours, small concerts and much more.

Carmarthenshire,
located in the Southwest of the country, is known as ‘The
Garden of Wales’ for its beautiful countryside, which reaches
from the rugged coastline of Carmarthenshire Bay in the south,
to the Black Mountain region of the Brecon Beacons in the east
and the gentle hills of Pembroke to the West. Caerfyrddin (or
Carmarthen, in English) is the county’s largest town, and the
legendary birthplace of Myrddin, the wise magician of Welsh
folklore, better known as Merlin, the wizard of Arthurian legend.
This project is hosted by Carmarthenshire County Council. One of
the Council’s obligations is to encourage access to the
countryside and to maintain areas of the countryside, footpaths
and country parks.
The
group leaders for the project will be MTVs (medium term
volunteers) who will be staying in Carmarthenshire for around
four months and assisting with several international projects.
Volunteers
will carry out practical environmental tasks alongside
professional contractors. Most of the work will involve making
improvements to public access in the park (i.e. improving and
developing footpaths), creating picnic areas and information
points, and also clearing scrub for reforestation. The work will
be physical, outdoors and may be in unpleasant conditions such
as rain, wind and mud (even in summer). There will be full days
of work (09.00-17.00) so volunteers may become tired and sore,
and should be prepared to work hard!
The
area volunteers will be working in is a site called
Alltnant-y-ci. It is an old open cast mine that has now been
reclaimed as an environmental area for the local community.
Volunteers will be helping to clear it create footpaths, bridges
and gazebos and also help build the mountain bike trail and
bridleways. The site will also be used as a place for exercise
facilities for older people and people with disabilities and
volunteers will be involved in the construction of these
facilities.
Volunteers
may also participate in some global education activities with
children and young people in schools and youth centres around
Carmarthenshire. these activities will be informal sessions and
will concentrate on volunteers giving these young people some
information about where they come from and running activities
with them. Volunteers might like to think about activities or
games from their own countries that they might be able to
contribute to these sessions – for example a national dance,
simple songs, children’s games, arts and crafts activities
etc. The group of MTVs (medium term volunteers) staying in
Carmarthenshire will help to lead these activities.
The
group will be living and working in a beautiful part of Wales
where there are many hills, beaches and castles. There will also
be plenty of opportunities to hear Welsh being spoken as many
local people have it as their first language. Welsh is one of
the oldest languages in Europe and belongs to the Celtic
language tree. It is still spoken by approximately 20% of the
population.
Accommodation:
The
group will live in the Glanaman youth resource centre, staying
in dormitory accommodation. The group will cook for themselves
in the kitchen in the centre. The centre also has two bathrooms,
a washing machine, a pool table and internet access. Glanaman
itself is a small town but there is a post office, a couple of
small shops and a pub.
Special
remarks:
Volunteers
should bring strong steel toe capped boots for working, a
waterproof jacket and trousers, as well as plenty of warm
clothing, since they will be working outside in all weather
conditions. It is quite cold in Wales during the winter – so
please come prepared!
Volunteers
are also asked to be flexible with regards to the sort of work
they do as some of the environmental tasks may vary slightly
from the initial project description.

Legambiente
is running since 1999 the ex-Convent San Giorgio, a Volunteering
Permanent Centre that has been hosting hundreds of volunteers in
different occasions (national and international work-camps,
European Volunteering Service,…). The Convent is located in
the region of Abruzzo, centre of
Italy
, about
150 km

Rome
. It has been fully restored by the local institution Mountain
Community and we furnished it following as much as possible
“static free” standards. The project aims to bring new
economic, tourism and especially cultural and spiritual

As every year, from January until June, Legambiente proposes to
spend some days at the ex Convento San Giorgio: a good chance to
meet people from all over the world, to know a bit of Italian
culture, getting in touch with permaculture and sustainable
living; all this staying in a Convent of the XVII° century.
Tasks of the participants change according to the period
of the year, the season and the weather, but can be summarized
in:
-
maintenance
of
the structure (cleaning the Convent, painting walls,
restoring windows,...)
-
feeding
the animals (chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, donkeys)
-
working
in the garden
-

You
will be sharing rooms inside the Convent.
Please

ecological town by distinguishing garbage into 21 categories,
etc. The workcamps
have
been creating a forest on the reclaimed land
to bear new lives as a symbol of revival,
with strong wish
of the patients as well
as doing various community works to activate local communities.
W: We will
activate the community by helping farming such as harvest of
onions and oranges. We
will
also
maintain the
workcamp forest by transplanting the seedlings and
collecting
fallen leaves to
fertilize
the soil for a few days and clean the beach/ sea.
