I: WHAT IS A WORKCAMP II: THE AIM Workcamps aim at bringing together people from different
cultures and promoting, through practical actions, mutual understanding
and lasting peace. Workcamps are a practical tool to demonstrate that
living, working together and sharing knowledge is not only possible but
rewarding. In the International work camps we see the
possibility of campers to exchange experiences, learn more about other
social, cultural, political and living conditions. III: THE GROUP The minimum age to qualify to be a
camper is 18 years old. Most young people and adults, who want to have a
break from their jobs, travel in different approach rather than tourist,
experiencing something new in their lives or students with varied
backgrounds and interest has been part of this program in the last 15
years. Usually one Work camp will have campers from 4-12 different
nationalities from across the world. Campers live in very basic and
simple accommodations such as in
youth hostels, host families, guest houses, empty residential houses,
tents, school classrooms, tents etc. The
work (Mostly 4-6 hours daily from Monday to Friday) should encourage
people to get to know each other by working towards a common aim and
simultaneously providing a real service. The work requires no previous
knowledge or experience e.g. tree planting, construction of community
facilities and renovation, ecology, child supervision, tree planting etc. We encourage campers to spend their
free time together in a group and can be used to get to know the community,
the Region or the country in more ways than as usual tourist. UVIKIUTA
